I am Melissa Teal and I have been in foster care for the past 4 years of my life. I have had the privilege to live in a house that made me part of their home. Lord knows every house hold will have their disagreements but I honestly couldn’t ask for more. It was scary going into a house of strangers, and living with them taking on a total life change as the new kid, in new settings. I was in a house of 7 people, with all different personalities, thoughts, beliefs and characteristics but everyone grows on everyone, I love every member of my family. My foster parents have been unbelievably supportive, stayed up and talked to me, gone to my school awards, been there for me through the thickest times in my teenage life. My foster brothers and sisters became my life, I loved that I had a new little brother and sister, being the youngest in my “real” family then taking the new role of a role model was something to look forward to. I am so lucky to have been given a family of people to take me in and go beyond the expectations I had ever thought of. Foster care is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
